Welcome to the Lava Guide, let this serve as your gateway to begin using Lava for an enhanced and decentralized Web3 experience.

Use the highlighted below to jump to your relevant section:

What is an RPC?

RPC is what connects a users request to the blockchain. When users interact on a dapp or access a wallet to make transactions, their requests go through an RPC provider who handles the request.

RPC = Remote Procedure Call = Connection between users and the blockchain.

Lava is the underlying protocol that provides fast, reliable and accurate connections to any blockchain. It has 2 million users and growing.

How to replace your centralized RPC with Lava:

The process is very similar across all wallets and chains. Once you do it the first time, you are able to do it anywhere. This is super useful knowledge for interacting within Web3. If you get stuck simply ask in Lava Discord where we can help.

Ethereum

<aside> 🔥 Access Web3 with Lava’s reliable RPC! Metamask guide:

  1. Head over to the gateway and create an account.
  2. Go to settings in your wallet → Networks → Add Network → Press ‘add more networks manually’ highlighted in blue → Use the details below to fill the blanks. If you get stuck simply click the button below for the full guide!

Network name:

Ethereum Mainnet

New RPC URL: (Endpoint) found at Lava gateway. Copy and paste the link below. It is not a clickable link.

Chain ID:

1

Currency Symbol:

ETH

Block Explorer URL:

https://etherscan.io

In Metamask this will create a second Ethereum Mainnet as it doesn’t allow you to change the RPC on the primary network. These are both Ethereum Mainnet, and using the one you created just now is more decentralised.

For other wallets, use the same network details as above, and follow these simple steps:

Settings → Networks → Select the chain → Add RPC Endpoint and paste the endpoint!

Understanding the Lava Gateway:

The Lava Gateway is the location of all the red hot endpoints! Essentially it shows all of the chains that Lava supports with RPC. Navigate to your favourite chain and click to view the RPC endpoint. Then you can paste that endpoint into your wallet and use Lava! (please note that for some chains, the wallets do not allow for custom RPC, for example Solana).

What is an Endpoint?

It is a URL (link) that defines the network address and protocol used for communication with blockchain networks.

Replaced RPC with Lava, what next?

Interact as normal and enjoy a more reliable, decentralized and true Web3 experience. Share your thoughts in the Discord and become a part of the decentralized RPC cult. Let the Lava flow!
